The BRLAN way

I´ve known Aleksandra since the study of fashion in Ljubljana and then trough the years both working for Elle. And now she fascinated me with this whole new campaign and collection. So, here it is, the new BRLAN trough Cute Life eyes.

 

• Aleksandra in 5 words?

I like questions that seek quick answers! So … Let me think … O.K., it goes something like this: morning, family, design, questions, life. Not always in that order.

• What is the most valuable thing or non-thing for you right now?

Time I guess. Quality time, meaning being healthy and being able to do what suits me best. Following my beliefs.

• The essentials of your autumn are?

My autumn is yet to come … Hope it’s gonna be a peaceful one! 🙂 If you’re reffering to my essentials for this autumn, then I’m going for a warm new oversize coat, knits and I really have to buy me a whole new pack of socks!!!

• The designer you adore the most?

Oh, the adorable question. I’d rather talk about respect, because we share the work field. Everything else is just personal taste. I respect people who question themselves and their work, designers who seek new solutions, not just produce new items every season for the sake of the market needs. I respect people who invent things and change the course of fashion in a good way.

• Your book of the now?

You’d like to know what I’m reading right now, yes? Well, nothing much, because I have a small baby and no time to read serious stuff. Just kid’s comics sometimes. They are all over the place since my other two kids love comics.

• Finally, please tell us something more about the new BRLAN concept.

You mean the latest collection? Well this is my diploma collection focusing on the sinergy of tradition and future. They get along so well! I think we should respect traditional knowledge and try to use it in new up to date ways. So I’m using the traditional shibori technique to permanently fold polyester fabric. And I look deeply into the soul of clothes to try to extract the essential shapes of the basic garments. I connect the two and there’s the collection!

• Where can we buy your collection?

There’s a shop opening soon in Ljubljana that’s going to stock my designs. It’s called Pentlja trgovina s konceptom and I have a stockist in Vienna. It’s a small boutique called Local.
