View Gallery 292 Photos

The third day for us in Dubai and the second one for the shows, talks and presentations at the venue of Fashion Forward Dubai, was once again more than expected.

My favourite collections of this day are the ones by Bedouin, Hussein Bazaza and Mrs. Keepa. You can read all about their inspirations and the essentials of the collections below and see al the photos in our Gallery, where are presented also all the other designers of day two.

There is so much beauty, soul and freedom of mind in all this creations, the vibe at the Fashion Forward and in Dubai, that I can hardly describe how I felt when I was looking at all the models floating ahed of me. It was subtile, feminine and so delightfull, as fashion should be.

BEDOUIN

The name of the collection is Chase the Sun

For SS17 BEDOUIN transports you to a minimalist Marrakesh with effortless silhouettes, a fresh take on traditional woven fabrics and a vibrant colour palette. This season BEDOUIN makes a statement through embroidery inspired by cultural diversity. Designed with the contemporary jetsetter in mind, each item has a playful spontaneity and a subtle confidence.

HUSSEIN BAZAZA

It has become rather known that behind each collection created by Hussein Bazaza is hidden a fairytale story from which all the inspiration is retrieved and brought to life.

The SS17 collection revolves around a mermaid and her life under the sea.

She used to be the most beautiful siren in the ocean with the most enchanting voice. Singing all day long, she would attract all the sailors passing through, charm them with her melodies and make them fall in love with her at first sight. She would then lure them into the waters, and have them keep her company in her warm little cave; but what she did not know, was that humans could not breathe under water, and the sailors would refuse to leave her as they were so infatuated with her beauty, so they would tragically die one after another leaving her heartbroken every time.

Until one day, she fell so deeply in love with one mariner and kept trying to seduce him into the waves, but as he kept refusing, unmoved by neither her voice nor her beauty, she decided to follow him onto land oblivious that she would not be able to survive herself, and end up dying for love. As her body was found lieing up on the shore, an aquamarine gemstone, believed to be a mermaid’s most cherished object and made up from her tears with the power to protect sailors at sea, was left behind.

The morale of the collection is all about the dark side of love and its sad endings. Wanting to take the concept of a joyful and colorful Spring/Summer collection and shift it into a darkened one, they opted for a somber, grungy and very dramatic mood.

For the first time, they are not going for the bright feels as they did in their last collection; their primary color is in fact pitch-black. Men’s fabrics is used, such as poplin and suit fabrics, with different patterns from men’s shirts like stripes, to create dresses and women’s pieces.

Undoubtedly, they have incorporatedtheir signature style in terms of lace technique but in a newer version with a new color palette.

MRS. KEEPA

“The Old Hollywood Glam”

Mrs. Keepa SS017 collection is inspired by the old Hollywood glam in the 1950 with a modern less sophisticated twist.

The colors’ palette is very fruity and luminous where you will find a bold play on colors for a more tasty, fun collection; it is mostly flashy colors mixed with soft palettes (burgundy, violet and light blue).

As for the collection designs, the main highlight is the interesting body wrapping designs “ Women might need a manual to figure out how to put it on.”

And here are all the other designers of day two with also amazing collections and the stories behind.

See all the photos in the Gallery above.

LAMA JOUNI

The SS17 collection is developed on structure, fluidity and the idea of softness. Using techniques such as shirting woven draped and mixed with crepes, distressed denim mixed with metallic taffeta, and soft linens with clean lines and uneven waistlines. This collection captures that 70’s minimalism with hints of glamour.

SAID MARHOUF

Panels & Lines

The base of this collection lays within the idea of using a broad strip set and turning it into panels draped around the body in order to create a new dimension of shapes. My mission was to redefine rectangular, vertical and horizontal forms by approaching these lines with an out of the box perception.

SALTA

Freedom. Love. Harmony.

There is nothing more inspirational than a designer’s goal of achieving simple fundamentals that transcend beauty and happiness in everything we experience, see and feel. This season Salta’s inner philosophy and desire is to bring Freedom, Love and Harmony in her creations. Her belief is that no matter where you are, where you’re from, and what you are surrounded by, the beauty and peacefulness lies inside of you, it’s not external, it’s Internal and gives you pleasure and fulfillment.

An exotic and bold mixture of street style and bohemian chic inspires the silhouette favored by the designer, while the traditional Kazakh sentiment presents a modest charm and serenity to the entire Salta collection. It’s for you to experience.

TIAR

Samurai Don’t Cry

The designer’s main inspiration comes from smart tailoring that allows the freedom of movement.

Tair is built on three fundamental references: The heritage of Far and Middle Eastern culture, precision of linear geometry, and bespoke tailoring – specifically the detailed construction of each piece.

ZAID FAROUKI

REVIVAL

Awakened from her slumber. The struggle of centuries has come to a complete halt. She realizes that only she can uproot social norms and free herself from the shackles of male imposed measures. She despises her gender’s definition as receptors of male handmedowns. As the night gets darker, resentment gets stronger. She declares herself free of maleimposed constraints and vows to pave a way for her own people. As morning rises, she declared victory by stripping her former commanders of their powers by feminizing their clothing and making them as daring as ever.

ZAREENA

Femininity

Every little girl’s dream is to either live as a fairy in an enchanted forest, or be a Princess of angelic beauty in a magical tale; the collection is about reminding women of all ages to live as a fairy and become that princess.

It brings to life the remembrance of childhood fantasies. It’s an urge to revitalize being prime and proper because who knows, a prince might just catch a glimpse, or maybe a jealous princess from another land.

The world is fast-changing, trends come and go. But there is one thing that every woman should not loose, which also reflects the value unique to women – Femininity.

ZENA PRESLEY

The SS17 collection is romantic, feminine and dreamy, it was highly inspired by birds and the certain traits that they carry. Birds represent freedom, love and family. They are also a symbol for new opportunities and possibilities, and so this collection demonstrates how I drew inspiration from birds’ beauty and movement.
